Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 19, 2026
WePickIt ("we", "us", or "our") operates the WePickIt application and the wepickit.app website (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions? Contact us at support@wepickit.app.
Information We Collect
- Account information: your email address and a display name. Sign-in uses one-time verification codes sent to your email, or Sign in with Google or Apple.
- Activity data: the sessions you create or join, the items you swipe on, and your matches.
- Approximate location (nearby places): when you start a restaurant or activity session, we use an approximate location to find places near you. The location is coarse, is randomly offset before we use it, and is not stored after the search. We do not track your location in the background.
- Country (legal requirements): we determine an approximate country from your device's IP address to apply the right rules to your account — such as whether regional privacy and parental-consent laws apply and whether advertising may be personalized. This country is stored with your account. We do this at sign-up and when you re-confirm your age, not continuously.
- Diagnostics: error and crash reports, and standard server logs (such as IP address and request timestamps), used to keep the Service running and secure.
- Analytics: We use PostHog to understand how WePickIt is used — for example which screens are viewed and how many sessions and matches happen. Analytics events are linked to your internal account ID (never your email address) and are collected only if you are an adult and have allowed analytics. When you delete your account, we also delete your analytics profile and its events from PostHog.
Invites and Blocked Users
When you invite someone to a session by username, we store which account sent the invite, which account received it, the session it refers to, and whether it was accepted or declined. If you block someone, we store that you blocked them. Blocking prevents that person from sending you invites; it does not prevent them from joining a session if you share your session code with them.
This information is deleted with your account. See "Data Retention and Deletion" below.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and secure your account, including sending one-time verification codes.
- To provide the core service: matching your swipes with your partner's.
- To send service-related email (such as verification codes).
- To monitor errors and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information.
Advertising
WePickIt shows ads through Google AdMob, including ads in the swipe deck, full-screen ads between actions, and optional rewarded ads you can watch to unlock a feature. For adults who agree, ads may be personalized using a device advertising identifier; on iOS this also requires the system tracking prompt. Users under the age of consent, and anyone who declines, are shown only non-personalized ads. WePickIt Premium removes ads.
Service Providers
We share data only with the service providers we need to operate the Service, and only for that purpose:
- Resend — delivers service email (receives your email address).
- Sentry — error monitoring (may receive diagnostic data).
- PostHog — product analytics (receives usage events linked to your internal account ID, if you have allowed analytics).
- Google AdMob — advertising (receives device and advertising-identifier signals, subject to your choices; a rewarded ad also confirms the reward with Google using your account ID).
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions (receives your purchase and subscription status, linked to your account ID).
- Apple and Google — when you use Sign in with Apple or Google, they handle your sign-in.
- Amazon Associates and Fandango — when you tap a "where to watch" or "buy" link, your device connects to that site (which receives your IP address) through an affiliate link.
- Trakt, Google Places, and Open Library — provide the movies, TV shows, restaurants, activities, and books you swipe on. Restaurant and activity searches send an approximate location; none of these receive your account identity.
- Poster images — movie and TV posters are served from our own servers, so no third party sees your device's IP address when a card is displayed.
- Our hosting provider — runs the servers and database where Service data is stored.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Some records are purged on a schedule even while your account is active: expired login tokens are removed after they expire, completed erasure records are kept up to 180 days as proof we honored a deletion, and completed or cancelled sessions are removed after 2 years. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which permanently deletes your account data — see Delete Your Account for the full steps and what is deleted or kept. You can also export a copy of your data from within the app. For help with either, contact support@wepickit.app.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
